SIXAXIS Gaming Premium Membership

As you all know, 6A is an evolving thing. We’ve gone from simple invisionfree forums created to host a single tourney, to phpbb3 and, later, vBulletin used to house one of the largest collections of Australian and New Zealand PS3 players on the internet.

We’ve seen many redesigns, many new directions and many competitive evolutions (which has recently culminated in our new ladders). We’ve also gained a lot of new members over the years and formed a pretty tight-knit community. Now while all these changes are exciting, there is a harsh reality to them: it’s going to cost more to keep the site operational. That’s the sad facts of the internet – the bigger you are, and the more you have going on in regards to traffic, the higher the costs are for hosting. The ladders themselves have also cost a bit and will still cost a bit more as we continue to upgrade them and fine-tune certain features.

For too long we’ve relied on the donations of kind-hearted individuals. These guys are the heroes of 6A because, without them, we wouldn’t be where we are at the moment. Whether it was a small 10 dollar donation or a ridiculously generous 100, it has all helped build the site you now see before you. They have given their own hard earned money, not because they themselves were getting anything out of it, but because the community as a whole was benefiting.

While we’re deeply grateful for all the offers of financial aid we’ve received, we no longer feel it’s right to base our operations on selfless donations alone. We think it’s about time we provide reward for any dollars thrown our way.

It is for that reason we’ve decided to introduce a Premium Membership program.

Anyone who is generous enough to donate will be receiving certain benefits for doing so, based on the amount they’re willing to offer up. No longer will you just have a badge, you’ll also receive many other bonuses.

Now we’ve decided to have just the one level of membership. This will start at $50 for a full year or, if you only want to buy a month or two, $5 per month.

As a platinum member, you will be entitled to the following benefits

    • Cost of $50 per year or $5 per month
    • Entry into a monthly draw for prize valued at minimum $40 with five entries/tickets – we’ll have a live draw every month (possibly by Peach, one can only hope) where awards ranging from PSN cards to PS3 titles to headsets and much more. These draws will be held on the last Tuesday of every month.
    • Official 6A stubby holder – this will be posted to your address. Now when you’re drunk as a skunk at 3 in the morning playing Uno on your PS3, you’ll think of us.
    • Custom user title – You see how you’re the level of Jean Reno or Ted Danson or whatever? Now you can edit that to say whatever you want (within reason).
    • Post-bit colour/background image (platinum specific design) – The postbit is the little box beside every post which contains your avatar, location, post count, etc. That will be pimped out to let everyone know what an awesome person you are.
    • Access to premium members forum – this will be a special area where future developments will be revealed and discussed. These will range from updates with the ladders to proposed rule sets for leagues to new forum features.
    • Entry into a monthly competition to become 6A’s Gamer of the Month – small tournaments will be held every month with the winner earning a spot on the front page. These will range from knockout tourneys to in-game challenges (like a high score or a fastest lap) with the game being competed on voted by all the Premium Members. If people feel lazy we can also just raffle it out.

More features will be added to these lists as they become available.

HOW TO PAY

1. Go to ‘Settings’ located in the top right of the forums.

2. In the left column, under ‘My Account’, you’ll see ‘Paid Subscriptions’. Click that.

3. In the next page you’ll be able to select how long you want to have an active membership. Select the one that suits you then click ‘Order’.

4. You’ll have to order via Paypal, so on the next page click ‘Order Using Paypal’. That makes logical sense.

5. You DO NOT need to have a paypal account. You can pay directly from a credit or debit card. In the Paypal order, please specify somewhere exactly what your 6A username is so that we can easily figure out who’s making the payment.
